Technical Draw – Referee stopped the contest following doctor’s recommendation 2 minutes and 49 seconds of fourth round due to serious cuts over both of Billy Corito’s eyes sustained via head clashes.

Notes:

Igor Pylypenko down in third, as well as had a point deducted for intentional foul (use of head) in the third round.

It should be noted that, besides receiving a point deduction for the clear intentional foul Mr. Pylypenko received various warnings due to actions such as attempted tripping of his opponent as well as following further clashes of head, which whilst deemed to be accidental, are suspected to have been intentional as each time occurred when referee Mr. Cardona’s view was obstructed by one of the boxers position.

Additional Event Notes:

1. This was Boxing and Music Special event and besides the single professional bout there were three Exhibition contests

2. As usual, two competitors were randomly selected for drug testing, however Mr. Scott Dixon, who competed in one of the exhibition bouts, volunteered to be one of those tested. Both boxers tested negative.

3. One minute silence followed by Ten Bells salute in memory of legendary boxer Jake Lamotta, who passed away recently and also Polish American boxer and coach Piotr (Peter) Pozyczka who fought in Malta in the 1990s who passed away exactly one year to the day. Mr. Pozyczka’s daughter Victoria was a special guest at the event.

Additional Event Notes:

Infra-Scanners was introduced for the first time on a Maltese event to test for bleeds on the brain both pre and post contests.

Unlike in the debuting event for the scanners, in the case of this event the scans were made immediately after the individual contests, rather than take an extended break and scan participants of two or three contests, which will be the case at all future events

For future events this procedure will be initiated immediately that will enable the boxers to be immediately scanned post fight without any delay to the event schedule.

2. Dr Mark Xuereb successfully operated the Dynamic Boxers Monitoring and Intervention System (DBMIS) once more at this event.

This unique procedure, developed by Dr Xuereb and his team, enables the Ringside Medical team members to monitor boxers throughout pre-fight preparations as well as in competition from different positions around the ring.

A major benefit of this new procedure is that besides the monitoring of boxers throughout pre-contest and from various positions ringside, it also provides the Medical team the ability to attend to an injured boxer more quickly if required.
